What Is Domain Locking?

Domain locking is a security feature that prevents unauthorized changes to a domain name's registration. Note that there is a mandatory, 60-day lock on domains transferred from one registrar to another per ICANN rules.

It is highly recommended that you leave your domain locked as this helps prevent loss of control or ownership of the domain. If you transfer a domain to another registrar, you will need to unlock it at that time.

Change The Lock On Your Domain

To change a domain lock:

  1. Once you are logged in, navigate to My Domains.

  2. Select a domain.

  3. Within the Domain Lock section, click Manage Domain Lock.

  4. Select On or Off and click Save.
