Transfer A Domain To NameBright Without An Auth Code

To transfer a domain name, there are a few steps you need to take:

First, you'll need to ensure that the domain name is unlocked at its current registrar. This will allow you to initiate the transfer process.

In addition to unlocking the domain, you'll also need to obtain an "authorization code," which may also be referred to as an "auth code" or an "EPP code." This code serves as a security measure and confirms that you are authorized to transfer the domain.

At NameBright, you can start the transfer process with or without the authorization code, but it is highly recommended that you obtain the code before initiating the transfer. This will help ensure a smooth and seamless transfer process.

If you do choose to start the transfer process without the authorization code, you will need to obtain it from your current registrar before the transfer can be completed. This may cause delays or complications, so it's best to obtain the code beforehand if possible.

Transfer Your Domain Without Downtime

When you transfer your domain from one registrar to another, the domain's DNS (Domain Name System) records need to be updated to point to the new registrar's servers. If the DNS records are not updated correctly, it can cause downtime or interruptions to your website, email, or other online services associated with your domain.

To transfer your domain to NameBright without any interruptions follow these instructions:

Option 1: Category Level Settings

We recommend using this option as it is safer and more configurable.

  1. Create a new category. Go to My Categories and click + New Category.

  2. Create settings for the category (domains within the category inherit the category settings). When your settings are configured at the category level, your domains will transfer instantly. Category settings include nameservers for the domains, host records, email accounts, Email Forwarding, privacy protection – the works.

If it is of utmost importance to not experience any downtime we suggest you transfer another disposable domain into this category first, to test that everything is working correctly. This might require special settings with your hosting company. Contact us if you have questions.

Option 2: Domain Level Settings

If you are transferring just one domain and want to make sure its DNS servers and host records are configured correctly, go with this option.

This allows less flexibility with having email accounts pre-configured and URL forwarding setup. However, you will be able to control DNS and NameServers on new inbound transfers.

  1. To configure a domain this way, select Use NameBright’s NameServers when you initiate the transfer.

  2. Then, after you have approved the transfer of the domain, go to My Transfers > Inbound Transfers and click on the domain name. Then pre-configure host records prior to the transfer.

Get A Year Of Registration When You Transfer

When you transfer a domain to NameBright we will add 1 year to the current expiration date of the domain.

Transfer Locks

When a domain name is transferred into a registrar, or registered for the first time, a mandatory 60 day lock is placed on the domain name that will prevent the domain name from transferring out of the current registrar until the lock has expired.

The lock cannot be removed from the domain name for any reason, however on the 60th day, the lock will automatically fall off your domain name. At that time you will be able to access your Authorization / EPP code through your NameBright account.

Domain locks can be changed at the domain level and the category level.

Authorization Code

This code is officially called an AuthInfo Code or Auth-Info code by ICANN and registry operators. It is alternatively called an auth code, a transfer key, a transfer secret, an EPP code, EPPT authentication code, or EPP authorization code.

If you have initiated a transfer, but your authorization code is not being accepted by the external registrar, resetting it can correct the issue.

Outbound Transfers

To transfer out, you will need to unlock your domain and obtain an Auth Code. Once your domain is unlocked, go to your new registrar and initiate an inbound transfer. Enter your Auth Code when prompted.

The exact transfer process is different for each domain name registrar or web host. Consult the new registrar on their exact process if you are unsure how to transfer a domain to them.

To check the status of your outbound transfer, follow these steps:

  1. Once you are logged in, navigate to My Transfers.

  2. Select Outbound Transfers.

Rejected Transfers

A rejected transfer is when the losing registrar tells NameBright that they won’t allow the transfer to go through. This can happen for multiple reasons, most likely your transfer was rejected for one of the following:

  1. You Rejected The Transfer Some registrars allow you to approve/deny a transfer on their end, and sometime within the 5 day transfer period you told them to cancel the transfer.

  2. This Domain is Pending A Legal Dispute A registrar will reject an outbound transfer request if the domain is pending a legal dispute.

  3. The Losing Registrar Rejected The Transfer Sometimes there are unknown reasons a registrar will reject an outbound transfer. This is not supposed to happen, and if neither 1 nor 2 above fit your case, you should call the losing registrar and ask them why the transfer was rejected.
