Category Management Overview

Managing a group of domains with a cumbersome, outdated system can be time consuming. NameBright’s category management system makes it significantly easier to manage domain portfolios, and provides you with a faster workflow.

With NameBright, it’s easy to create ‘domain categories’ which let you manage many domains at once. When you change a setting at the category level, your changes apply to every domain within the category.

Let’s say that you decide to enable Privacy Protection for some of the domains you own. Instead of turning Privacy Protection on – one at a time – for each domain, just create a category. Next, add domains and enable Privacy Protection to the category. All the domains in the category instantly have Privacy Protection enabled.

If a domain in the category needs a specific setting, you may override its category settings.

Working With Categories

By default, all accounts have one category. To create a new category, go to My Categories and click + New Category.

There are two ways to add a domain to a category.

  1. Once you are logged in, navigate to My Domains. Select a domain. From the Domain Overview page, click ‘Change Category’ in the Category section.

  2. From the My Domains page, when viewing in Advanced View, select a domain. Next, choose a category from Edit Domains dropdown menu, then select Move To New Category.

To manage a Category, Go to My Account, then select My Categories in the left navigation.

Category Overrides

With categories, domains are not configured on a domain by domain basis – settings are managed at the category level.

We suggest all domains in a category be configured identically. However, sometimes you might have a need for a specific domain to override the category settings.

For example: If you are selling a domain, you may need to unlock it. A category override allows you to override the lock category setting just for that domain.

Use caution when using category overrides. Overrides can cause perplexity and confusion in large domain portfolios.
